Highbury Concrete, Inc. based in New York City, has been a superstructure contractor since 2013. Outside of establishing itself as a business focused on safety and environmentally sound practices, Highbury Concrete, Inc. has also made contributions to area charities. Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics (FAST), for example, focuses on providing research opportunities for the disease.
Named for Dr. Harry Angelman, the syndrome is sometimes confused with cerebral palsy or autism because the syndrome carries similar manifestations. People with the disorder suffer from delayed development, inability to speak, walking and balance disorders, and seizures. The disease is a rare genetic disorder, occurring in one in 15,000 births.
The Foundation, founded in 2008, is an international one, operating in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia. FAST is the largest non-governmental funder of this particular condition, and more significantly most of the funds raised through the organization go directly to research, with less than four percent allocated to administrative and general costs. FAST grants and the FAST-trac program provides researchers with a quick way to get funding towards Angelman Syndrome research in the areas of drug research, gene therapies, and identification of Angelman-specific biomarkers.
